Capture. Store. Relive.
With Pinned, every trip becomes more than just photos.
It’s a place to collect and revisit the true spirit of your travels—bringing sights, sounds, and memories back to life whenever you want.
When memories fade like footprints in sand
Have you ever noticed how quickly the details of a trip fade? After the excitement, all that remains are the biggest highlights, with the smaller, quieter moments disappearing like footprints on a beach.
Starting with key guiding questions
The first step was understanding how people currently travel through their memories. Each person has a unique way of preserving their experiences.
To uncover this variety, I guided our research with three key questions:
Question #1
How do people currently capture and preserve their travel memories?
Question #2
Do existing tools effectively retain the essence of these memories?
Question #3
What methods do users have to ‘relive’ their trips afterward?
Our research insights challenged our assumptions and gave us a fresh perspective
To dig deeper, we conducted 102 surveys and 11 in-depth interviews.
Unexpected insights: high satisfaction with current methods
A deeper need: memory organization and recall challenges
Reimagining memory preservation
With the research insights in hand, we want to create a new experience that’s more like storytelling than storage. Out of several feature brainstorming sessions, we finalized to below features.
Pinned’s future vision
AI-Driven Memory Resurfacing: Using AI to resurface memories based on user preferences.
Social Media Integration: Importing and enhancing memories from other platforms for a complete travel journal.
Enhanced Sensory Elements: Adding ambient sounds and location recommendations to deepen memory connections.
Leadership and design evolution
Leading the design team for this project was a rewarding challenge. Managing a team of six designers with varied skills required careful prioritization of features to meet deadlines, focusing on high-impact improvements first. We maintained consistency in fonts, colors, and layouts across the app, resulting in a cohesive design.Through this experience, I’ve gained valuable skills as a design leader, helping shape a product that preserves user memories in a richer, more engaging way.
